Southwind is a work that portrays a view of the Dallas skyline looking east from the Trinity Groves area. The focal point of the work is the Texas flag, stretched out by a warm south wind; The winds that are typical in the Texas summers. Behind the flag, also part of the main focus is the relatively new Margret Hunt-Hill Bridge that spans the slow moving waters of the Trinity River. Cars driven by people who are heading home from a days work or to enjoy the offerings of the restaurants in the Trinity Grove area are crossing the river as the sun sets in the west. Having worked in some of the high-rise buildings that make up the Dallas skyline and walked and painted in the parks that are present in the Trinity River bottoms, and fished for the river monsters that lurk in the muddy waters of the Trinity, this area has always had a unique pull on me. Especially at the end of those hot summer days when the heat begins to fade into the cooler air of evening and the city lights gain strength as the sun fades into the west.
