In the evening hours, birds of all kinds begin to find a “roost”, a place to spend the night in the safety of the trees. The Great White Egret in this painting was the “first to the roost” this particular evening. Once endangered, the Great White Egret has come back from the brink of extinction and is now a very common bird in Texas waters.
