I took on a paint challenge with a studio mate to paint a cactus patch located in Austin, Texas from a photograph. I immediately scrubbed in the shapes and couldn’t wait to paint the blossoms. The pads of the cactus grow in such irregular shapes and directions, making it fun to create depth in the patch. The pops of yellow ochre and deep yellow are beautiful and add to the prickly pears growing in the front yard.
