This painting was created from a photo I had taken at a photo shoot in Colorado.  Both models were clothed in accurate period dress.  The two riders were positioned slightly off-center in the painting to allow the eye to wander across the entire canvas.  The foreground is dominated by the crystal-clear blue water, reflecting the sky above and providing contrast to the earthy tones of the horses and riders. The play of light on the water’s surface and the dappled shadows in the foliage showcases how light interacts with different materials. This painting was created to capture a moment of quiet vigilance.  The riders’ alert postures the and the way they hold their rifles suggest a wariness of potential danger, adding tension to an otherwise serene scene.
