‘Mixing It Up” was painted with the limited palette of Alizarin Crimson (Classic), Ultramarine (Gamblin), Cad Yellow Med (Gamblin) and Titanium (Charvin). Painting this contemporary still life (a favorite subject matter of mine) I was very comfortable with this color palette, as I loved the wide range of violets and red that transparent Alizarin Crimson produces. I also liked the wide range of greens that the Ultramarine and Cad Yellow produced. I focused on mixing it all up, therefore the title of “Mixing It Up” seemed perfect! After painting with this palette, I will be using this limited palette again, as I learned that I don’t need to overload my palette with dozens of colors and that I can simplify my painting experience with “Less is More”.

Colors Used: Titanium White, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine, Cadmium Yellow Medium
