This oil painting originated from a trip to New Mexico where I executed a small plein air study on location. With that information taken directly from life, I brought those elements into my studio where I executed this piece.

This magnificent view is called Echo Amphitheater, just outside Ghost Ranch. Working the transitions between lights and shadows was a real joy and challenge, and as usual, making sure I kept a balance between the supporting areas and the main center of interest, which is the lit area of the cliffs. The soft reds, blues and oranges create a magical split complementary composition that emanates energy and tranquility into the same canvas.
