Tricolor Herons are quite entertaining as they slowly, meticulously stalk their prey through shallow water. They use sharp stops, turns and lifted wings to create shadows and lead their meal into range. Then with precision and determination, they strike. They are usually alone or at the edge of groups of mixed wading birds. They will defend their hunting area from other wading birds.
My inspiration for “Blue Eden” was influenced by the flat mirrored surface of the water as it was pierced by the herons activity. As the heron maneuvered through the pond it created ripples, patterns and reflections.
