Gates, Mark

Born and raised in Southern Ohio, Mark Gates has had a life-long fascination for all types and styles of fine art, especially of the Old West.

After graduating from Central Academy of Commercial Art in Cincinnati, he moved to Texas to begin a 39 year career as an Illustrator, Graphic Designer and Art Director.

While painting and drawing took a back seat to Advertising and Design for many years, Mark’s desire to create fine art never died. Mark has recently picked up the brush and is spending more and more time at the easel. He enjoys working in oils and acrylics, is learning every day and establishing his own voice on the canvas. His preferred subjects to paint are animals and landscapes. His goal is to grow and improve with every brush stroke.

As a member Rockwall Art League, Mark highly values this association of serious and talented artists. The depth of knowledge and diversity of styles, personalities and events are continually inspiring.

Artist Statement
It’s such a welcome escape to sit in front of the canvas and see where it takes me. My mission is to soak up all the knowledge I can to improve my style and approach with every painting.
