From the Ashes, She’ll Rise Again by Jacob Secrest

Original Acrylic on Panel
12×9 Unframed

Every day and all over there world, there are many, many noteworthy events and tragedies. These are reported at local levels, but there are very few occurrences that can cause the entire world to stop and watch in real time. Everyone, everywhere stopped to watch the day that one of the most historically recognizable buildings, the Cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris, was in flames. I received messages whether I was seeing this, which I was, and I stopped my plans for that day, turned on the news and painted this piece as I watched in disbelief. Based on how people were reacting and commenting, somehow everyone felt connected to this moment in some way, as if a piece of world history, and not just that of France, would forever be lost.
