Dappled in Light by Kay Wyne

It was mid-September, late in the day when the sun was setting. I spotted a beautiful fruit on a vine in a neighbor’s backyard. The early evening sun was hitting the leaves, the hanging fruit and the back of the fence. Clearly the cucumber (yes, a red cucumber!) had been left on the vine and scorched by the hot Texas sun. But it was beautiful. I took a photo of the cucumber tucked back on the vine, capturing the dapples of sun hitting it, giving a wonderful red glow. I couldn’t wait to get into the studio and paint the light that I experienced that September day. “Dappled In Sunlight” was challenging but fun to paint, as I wanted to paint the warmth and light of that moment, when the sun was low.
