Big Tex Legacy by Kyle Wood

“Howdy Folks, This is Big Tex. Welcome to The State Fair of Texas” are the welcoming words that are boomed out to Texas Fair-goers each fall. Big Tex has been the iconic mascot at the State Fair of Texas since 1952. I painted a commemorative piece highlighting how the cowboy figure evolved over the years. You will notice that he looked much different in the early years than he does today. At the end of the 2012 State Fair of Texas Big Tex burned and was rebuilt in time for 2013 State Fair. The new figure is 3 Feet taller than its predecessor and his clothing is made out of flame retardant material. For the painting, I highlighted the most notable outfits and changes that occurred. Enjoy!!
