‘Till the End of the Day by Layne Johnson

Original Oil on Canvas

16 x 12 Unframed

As the end of the day approaches, the afternoon clouds build, catching the light of the sinking sun over the vines. I watch nature’s glorious show as more and more colors bloom and fill the sky.

Layne Johnson is a lifelong, professional artist – art has been a central part of his life since he first picked up a brush and oil paints as a kid. The painters of the Hudson River School have heavily influenced Johnson’s work, which has been described as a blend of Luminism and Classical Realism with a touch of American Impressionism. He believes there is incredible beauty in raw, imperfect nature.

“I feel God’s pleasure when I paint his Skies”

After successful careers as a graphic designer and illustrator, followed by many years as a children’s book artist, he’s returned to his first love, fine art oil painting. Johnson finds ongoing inspiration from the Texas landscape. The way the light plays upon the trees and rocky terrain. The big powerful, stormy Texas skies. The romantic sunrises and sunsets. The lazy rivers, creeks and streams. The artist enjoys exploring the back roads in search of untouched land and untold stories. His mission is to honor and paint these landscapes before they’re changed or disappear forever – and to share them with people who love the land as he does.

“For me, the best paintings combine many moments into their essence, whether that’s a landscape or portrait.”

After a lifetime of the big city, Johnson now maintains his studio, home and mini-farm in the Woodlands of east Texas, where he can soak up the landscape right outside his door. He’s a member of the Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, and Artists of Texas. He received a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Houston. His work hangs in private and corporate collections, and has won numerous accolades, including awards from Plein Air Salon and the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.

“My hope is my art speaks to you in some way – lifts you up, brings you peace, brings you joy, makes you FEEL MORE, or transports you to another time or place – again and again.”
