A native Texan, Layne Johnson received a BFA in illustration from the University of Houston. After many years as a successful commercial artist, including creating art for numerous books for children, Johnson returned to his first love, fine art. Influenced by the painters of the Hudson River School, Johnson is best known for his luminous, expansive skies and lush landscapes. His style has been described as contemporary classical realism, with a touch of American impressionism. “My hope is my art speaks to you in some way – lifts you up, brings you peace, brings you joy, makes you feel MORE, or transports you to another time or place – again and again.” After a lifetime of city life, the oil painter now resides in the beautiful woodlands of East Texas where he is inspired daily by the beauty surrounding him.
