hirley “has come into her own unique style that sings of light and motion yet still allows the viewers mind to fill in the ample detail”…Stella Violano
Much of Shirley’s work is informed by her lifelong interest in the Old West and her early years on her grandfather’s Oklahoma farm.
Humble, Texas has been her home for the last ten years, but she considers herself to be a transplanted Okie. The rich heritage of Texas and Oklahoma has given her a window into the life of the west.
Her roots run deep from her maternal grandmothers’ journey in a covered wagon to Oklahoma Territory, her paternal Cherokee heritage and to the 7th great grandfather French Hugenot nobleman who arrived in Philadelphia, PA in 1663 and became a wealthy pirate!
Although Shirley did not get to begin painting until after her family was raised, she has always been intrigued by the human spirit which shows in her figurative work. She has experimented with various mediums but painting in oils has become her passion as she creates representational art with impressionistic influences. She wants to share the emotion and beauty that she sees with others through her paintings. A consummate student, she continues to study and grow artistically.
Her paintings have garnered numerous awards from the very beginning and have been collected throughout the United States. Now a Texas artist, she moved to the Houston area from Wewoka Oklahoma. Shirley’s paintings have been juried into national shows by Oil Painters of America and Scottsdale Artist’s School. She maintains a studio in Humble, TX and is represented by The Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, TX and Studio 409 Gallery in Humble, TX. Her work hangs in Chez Nous-Humble, TX.
