EXCELLENTE!

After fifteen consecutive years of outstanding performance, Raul Mercier Fine Arts presented their fine art collection reflecting the multi-dimensional elements of technique, genre, and talent.

Raul Mercier shared uncompromising quality, featuring the work of legendary, established and emerging artists from Latin America.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SHOW: Joe Marquez

He was born in Lima, Peru, in 1958. Son of a well known painter, Marquez was influenced by his father to continue the hard struggle that a painter must follow to “make it”. Marquez, started painting very young. At age 10, he will help his father prepare canvases. By age 12, Marquez was assisting his father with the painting. He mixed colors and did the underpainting in several cases. At 18 years old, he was painting very decent canvases with very little help. The Marquez are well known in Peru because of their long tradition as painters and very friendly approach on such personal career. Practically every artist interested in traditional painting have been in their atelier on time or another. Formal training in Peru has been dominated by “modern” painting in the last 25 years, and, therefore, few or none courses are offered. His works are owned by several distinguished collectors from Peru and other South American countries.

ARTIST’S PAINTING PHOTOGRAPHIC REALISM OF PLASTIC & GLASS

There were so many artists that mimicked old masters in the 18th century by working in layers of techniques. Such one may have painted the actual composition, then another family member did the guilding and another followed up with calligraphy and/or gold leafing. It would be a team of artists to produce one piece of work. It would be literally the family business.

There were very large paintings that looked like a photograph. One comes to mind of jello squares in a short martini-like glass. You can see the sheen of the jello upon the clear glass and how the light bounced off the side of the jello as well as how the jello appeared against the glass. Quite interesting how the artist captured the realism of the food and the glass. The same artist also captured other fruit in clear bags, again, capturing the clarity of the plastic bag or glass.

BRIGHT RED & CONTEMPORARY

There were hundreds of paintings, but one thing is for sure that we saw a lot of color. An unusual red that was warm and inviting was very attractive. We saw some abstract figuratives that were modern ladies in various activities having a good time. Definitely, Nouveau Chic folks who are glamorous about their fashion and who are trendy would most likely appreciate the personality found in these pieces.

FROM COUNTRY TO SEA TO CITY LIMITS

Many of the landscapes were surprisingly different and very pleasing to the eye. There were many Brazilian country scenes with water features to tree lines that had a beautiful view that captivated you to want to schedule a vacation spot to visit. Or maybe escape in your mind to a place away from your desktop or mundane office. From hiking the lush mountain tops, taking a swim in the rushing creek to running through the corn fields or just some thoughts that came rolling through my mind the moment that I viewed them. There were so many places to escape to even if it would be a 2D piece of work it got me involved to imagine myself there taking in the vista.

WILD HORSES

Several artists truly captured the spirit of the horses running free or painted them in ways that revealed movement. The horses were balanced and you can tell that most of the artists who painted the horses captured their spirit and unusual personalities. If they appeared to be running free, the overall painting was convincing to not be confused as well as not question the anatomy of the horse.

CONTEMPORARY MIXED MEDIA

There were many tasteful nude figuratives that encompassed details with graphite pencils, charcoal and oil. Various messages of moods were developed and carried through the art series. Again, the details of the hair to the actual body language is quite a beautiful composition.

IN ONE BEAUTIFUL LOCATION

This evening was a great way to absorb the South American culture. There was so much diversity. There were many pieces that were museum quality.

“This show featured the work of the South American’s very best fine artists. And year after year,” Hans Massar shares, “It’s the quality of the work and the creativity represented that makes this the best trunk show.”

“Personally, there was so many fine art pieces from watercolor, acrylics, oil and mixed media that soothed and inspired me. I wanted so many pieces!” Sharon Thomas.
