Love Every Piece!

Dutch Art Gallery Sitting Room

Inspiration can come in all shapes and sizes, as well as coming from any place or time. The key element in displaying art in your home is that YOU love it. If your chosen pieces reflect your values, attitude, and dreams, then your viewers will recognize the connection and enjoy your displays.

Art on the wall looks best when hung at eye level or slightly lower than eye level. Keep in mind how the art will be viewed most often either from a standing or sitting position. Also, consider where the picture is being hung. For children’s rooms, hang kids art at the eye level of the child.

When hanging art above furniture, have twice as much space above the art than below it. A general guideline to follow for framed artwork is 4 to 8 inches from the surface of the furniture to the bottom of the frame.

In this room, there is a lot of wood. Beautiful wood, but it can be overpowering when trying to decide on frames. In this case, a wood frame most likely would get lost. The ocean and river scenes pop out rather than blend into the wood when the frame is textured and ornate. One stone-like custom designed Larson-Juhl frame over the mantle draws your attention. A reminder of the master’s beloved dog Luke is placed near the window where he often would sit as if the chair was his throne. The original oil on canvas portrait is placed in an old-world ornate timeless gold antique frame.
